Crosswalk Youth Shelter
Crosswalk is currently located in the downtown core of Spokane, WA. Due to predatory risk factors, youth are no longer safe in this area and we have outgrown our space for the necessary resources to continue their upward mobility. VOA has purchased land 2 blocks from Spokane Community College and will be building an expanded service model that includes the original shelter and wrap around services on the first floor and "college dorms" for youth aged 16-20 who are engaged in SCC's career readiness degree programs and running start programs. This will provide stability and necessary supports on their pathway out of homelessness.
With youth at the table for the entire design session, we created a “prevention” strategy to get upstream of adult homelessness. By building our new facility next door to Spokane Community College and creating career pathways, youth can complete and move into livable wage jobs. This will give them the security to not need homeless services as an adult.
