Rapid Re-Housing
The downturn in the economy has put many on the edge of disaster. But we know that just a little assistance can keep an individual or family from becoming homeless.
That’s why we are a participant in the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP).
Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, this three-year program is collaboration between the City of Spokane Human Services Department and local service organizations like Volunteers of America who are dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness in Spokane.
The program reaches out to individuals and families accessing the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), applying for unemployment benefits and other stimulus-funded projects and also accepts self-referrals from individuals who are not otherwise connected to mainstream resources.
How does HPRP help?
This program offers temporary assistance to individuals and households who have lost a job or have otherwise been economically impacted by the recession. We prevent homelessness by offering assistance to either keep applicants in their current housing or help them rapidly finding stable housing with services including:
- Rental assistance
- Utility deposits & payments
- Housing relocation/moving costs
- Motel vouchers (30 days)
- Suitable housing search
- Other support services*
Who is eligible?
Eligible individuals and households need to reside within Spokane City limits, qualify as homeless or at risk of homelessness and have a very low income (less than 30 percent of area median income). Applicants must also be experiencing several HUD-specific risk factors including a sharp increase in utility bills, the recent death of a spouse or physical disabilities, among other risk factors.
How do I apply?
This program has reached capacity and is not currently accepting new applications.
* HPRP is not a poverty-abatement program, and HPRP funds cannot be used for mortgage payments.
