Rusty has served as program director at Hope House women’s shelter since 2002. In that role, she is a steadfast advocate of homeless women, constantly responding to their needs when many other shelter programs would deny them care due to substance abuse, mental health issues and victimization from domestic violence. Hope House gives homeless women a warm bed and a hot meal, but—thanks to Rusty—they also receive genuine respect and loving care as they climb out of homelessness.
Rusty has been with Volunteers of America since 2001, beginning as director of our Transitional Living programs serving at-risk youth and also working as a homeless advocate on a roving outreach team. Rusty holds a Masters in Education and Counseling from Whitworth University and is a licensed and certified mental health counselor. She is an active member of the Spokane Homeless Coalition and has served on its leadership team and as its Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week chairperson.
