Our Kids—Our Business:
Lewis & Clark Key Club youth reach out to keep peers safe

Spokane, Wash.—A group of local students is making a gesture to show their support of Spokane’s Our Kids: Our Business child abuse prevention campaign by helping educate other youth about how they can keep themselves safe in an emergency.

Student members of Lewis & Clark High School’s Key Club will honor Child Abuse Prevention Month by distributing information about Volunteers of America’s Safe Place programs to more than 4,000 local students at District 81’s six middle schools.

The flyers will inform kids about the hundreds of yellow-and-black Safe Place sign displayed in fire stations, restaurants, grocery stores, banks, libraries and other businesses throughout Spokane and Kootenai counties—signaling to youth that they can go inside to find immediate help and safety.

When youth go inside a Safe Place location for help, the staff inside connect youth with a Safe Place volunteer who ensures that youth get the help they need—whether it’s help dealing with a tough situation at school or home, getting counseling, accessing shelter services such as food and clothing, or any other help. Our staff is always waiting to help. Youth can reach us anytime by calling our 24-hour helpline at 1-888-673-SAFE.
