10th Annual I Remember Mama Luncheon
Mother’s Day: Sunday, May 11, 2008, 1:00-2:30 p.m.
Red Lion—Hotel at the Park, Skyline Ballroom
(303 W. North River Drive)

Spokane, Wash.—
Just imagine, more than 100 low-income elderly and disabled women—who face a very real chance of spending Mother’s Day alone—instead dressed in their Sunday best, many personally chauffeured to one of the city’s nicest hotels.
Waiting there for them is a beautifully decorated room where each woman is treated to a gourmet meal, entertainment, gifts, a card handmade by a local school child, and the kind of companionship every woman deserves on Mother’s Day.
This scene will be a reality for dozens of local women at I Remember Mama on Sunday, May 11, at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park. This year’s luncheon marks a decade since Volunteers of America has hosted its first Mother’s Day luncheon, honoring dozens of local women who may otherwise have spent the holiday alone.
The event is provided at no cost to participants thanks to the generosity of individual donors and businesses in our community who sponsor a “Mama” or group of women. Many sponsor a woman in honor of their own mothers for a special Mother’s Day gift. Others sponsor a Mama in memory of a grandmother or other deceased loved one.
I Remember Mama allows donors to give a wonderful gift to their own loved ones while making it possible for one senior woman who would otherwise be alone to celebrate Mother’s Day surrounded by friends and community volunteers, knowing that she has not been forgotten.
In addition to serving these elderly mothers, it also helps to support new mothers and their young children at Alexandria’s House (a program of Volunteers of America).
I Remember Mama gives local individuals, families and businesses the opportunity to demonstrate genuine care and concern for the elderly and forgotten in the community; by donating their time or contributing a gift, they make real difference in the lives of the women who attend.
