Crosswalk teen shelter in urgent need of Christmas gifts
For Release: Dec. 14, 2010
Contacts:
Spokane, Wash.—Crosswalk’s Christmas party is just a few days away and the teen shelter doesn’t have nearly enough presents to make the season bright for the 200 homeless and at-risk youth they expect at their Christmas celebration next Wednesday the 22nd.
The shelter, which is run b y Volunteers of America, has seen steadily declining donations that past few years but never a drop like this.
“In the past, our facility would literally be overflowing with gifts,” says Bridget Cannon, director of youth services at Volunteers of America. “People realize that these kids have next to nothing and they are incredibly generous. But everyone is feeling the pinch and this year we have very little to give the kids who use our shelter and drop-in center. We’re starting to panic a little.”
“We need a Christmas miracle.”
What do the youth want the most? Hoodies, backpacks and gift cards are most appreciated but a complete wish list is available online at www.voaspokane.org/WishList2010 or by calling 590.838.6596.
Gifts should be delivered unwrapped to Crosswalk at 2nd & Howard in downtown Spokane by Dec. 20th to allow time for volunteers to sort and wrap the gifts. The shelter is open 24/7 and free parking is available.
