Spokane, Wash.—The Ryan Larsen band will be featured in a benefit concert held Friday, June 27, 2008, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Spokane Masonic Center (1108 W Riverside Ave). Admission is a suggested donation of $10.
Where many aspiring musicians are intent on cashing in their talent to line their own pockets, homegrown singer/songwriter Ryan Larsen has made giving back a central theme in his budding music career.
Larsen, a Spokane native, is determined to use the notoriety he gained from his third-place finish on KHQ’s local American-Idol style “Gimme the Mike” and the local following his country crooning has amassed to benefit the community that reared him.
“I feel like any ability I have musically is a gift that doesn’t belong to me,” explains Larsen. “If I can use my voice to make even a small difference in the life of this community, then that’s what I plan to do.”
All proceeds of the concert will benefit Volunteers of America of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho. The nonprofit offers a continuum of shelter, support services and housing for many of Spokane’s homeless. Dedicated to “helping those who need our help the most,” Volunteers of America serves those often overlooked by other services—from street teens, women and veterans battling chronic homelessness to low-income, at-risk youth and families. The agency serves nearly 2,500 local individuals each year.
Band members also include Chris Blair (guitar), Kevin Egeland (drums), Ralph Kenworthy (guitar, background vocals) and Michael Locati (bass, background vocals).
